Casting our cares...

I've been hearing and reading a lot lately about casting our cares upon the Lord. As I was sitting here listening to Denise Renner talk to me about this subject, I got a mental image of moving files on my computer from one folder to another.

I'm not a graphic artist, so this is the best I could come up with to portray the image in my mind:


Casting the care of our "stuff" upon the Lord - whether it be as simple as managing time to get the laundry folded or as serious as a loved one in the hospital - is usually the easiest part. It's keeping those cares in God's capable hands that seems to trip us up the most. Too often, without even realizing it, we move the things we've given over to the Lord back into our "folder." Or maybe just make a teensy innocent copy so that we can both be on it at the same time. Doesn't work that way!

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus" Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

And then what do you do once you've cast your cares? You think about GOOD things:

"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise" Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
