A public service annoucement - Caramal Macchiato edition

I really like coffee. I mean really like coffee.

One of my favorite beverages to purchase at the Starbucks is their Caramel Macchiato. Last week I noticed a sign up at the Starbucks in our local Safeway store announcing the Skinny Caramel Macchiato. A grande is only 140 calories (compared to the 240 calories of the non-skinny variety), and only 1 gram of fat/0.5 grams sat. fat (this is a big reduction from the 7 grams of fat/4.5 grans sat. fat). I was intrigued, so I picked one up Friday morning on my way to work.

It wasn't that great. I think if I'd had the skinny version first I might have enjoyed it more. The difference in flavor was akin to the difference in flavor between a BJ's pizza and say...a Domino's pizza. Yeah, Dominos is okay, but given the choice, I would always pick BJ's.

That is all.

Keepin' it real - messy desk edition

This week Jake from Very Much Later put up a post about his messy desk. Then Floyd, from There Go I decided to follow suit.

As I found myself with an extra hour of free time this evening, I decided to organize the desk on which I prepare schoolwork and teach from during the week. It was neat on Monday, mind you.

As I entered the room, a thought hit me, and I immediately turned around and grabbed my camera.

I promise I didn't just slap my Bible down to try and make myself look good--I had totally been sitting there reading about 30 minutes before this photo was taken. And yes, I did eat some Tomato Basil Wheat Thins while I organized (and if you're wondering what the little gray figurine is at the back of the desk, I direct you to this video).

Like Jake and Floyd talked about in their posts--before I allowed God into the mess I had created in my life, I was basically useless.  I was a ball of twisted emotion. I had no idea what I was doing to the people around me. I am so not that girl anymore, and I am extremely thankful. Piece by piece, He's showing me how to live life to its full. I love being able to look forward to every single day.

Have you ever just wanted to smack someone?

I didn't plan on posting over the weekend, but I woke up with this thought running around in my mind. As I listened to a teaching on God creating us for a reason, I just new I had to write it up!

So really--have you ever felt like smacking someone? Don't worry, I won't judge.

I've felt that way plenty of times in the past. Correction--my flesh (also known as the soul: my mind, my will, and my emotions) wanted to "reach out and touch someone" in a non-loving fashion. The wonderful thing is, it isn't a sin to have a rush of emotion well up inside. The sin comes when we act upon the anger and irritation.

Thank God I am not just made up of my brain; I have a spirit and a body (1 Thessalonians 5:23, Hebrews 4:12). Choosing to listen to the Holy Spirit and forgive instead of spewing out my displeasure isn't always easy--but it's end is so much better!

Please understand that this is different than "stuffing" emotions. When we stuff things instead of letting them out, we end up boiling over at some point...and it's never pretty.  Forgiving someone is God's way of dealing with the feelings we have that doesn't cause harm to others--it actually benefits them.

Forgiving doesn't mean we'll never have to talk about issues or problems with others, but we do need to forgive them first, so we can approach it from the standpoint of the love of God.

With that said--enjoy your strife-free weekend!

Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins. Proverbs 10:12
